How to solder two wires together
Materials needed for this process
Soldering Iron
Soldering wire
Flux
Solder sucker (if you mess up)
two broken wires to mend together in this tutorial
Heat shrink tubing
Wire cutters/Strippers
Helping hands (Optional)
The first step of mending two broken wires together is to expose the copper on both of the wires. This could be done by using your wire strippers to strip the end of one of the wires that will look like the first picture when done correctly. The next step is to unravel the copper strands depending on the size of the wire. The copper may be a bunch of strands or the smaller wires just have one strand. But what you need to do is wrap the strands of each of the 2 wires together so they look something like the second picture. Once the wires are spliced together like in the photo the next step is to take a heat shrink tubing and put it at the end of one of the wires so it can be moved later. Now apply flux to the spliced wires where the strands of copper are connected. The next step is a lot easier if you have something called helping hands. What these are made to do is hold the wires in place while soldering work is done optional but very convenient to have. After flux is applied, put the soldering iron on the bottom of the copper on the wire and the soldering wire on top of the copper wire. What this will do is heat the copper and melt the soldering wire onto the copper, creating a coating of solder. This should look like the third photo roughly. The coating of solder might be smaller if the wires you are using are smaller. The last step is to push in the heat shrink tubing we placed earlier to cover the exposed wire then heat the heat shrink tubing using the soldering iron. This will cause it to shrink and fit with the wire nicely. After this step, you have successfully mended two wires together. The final result will look something like the last picture.
